چکیده

Vegetation index (NDVI) was extracted from bi-temporal multispectral images based on the data obtained from Landsat ETM + on 14 th , September, 2000 , Landsat ETM + on 9 th , September, 2004 , Landsat ETM + on 15 th , May, 2008 and Landsat-8 on 21 st , May 2013 for Dangshan County in Anhui Province. Analysis and data extraction was carried out using the ENVI 5.0 software. Normalized values of thermal radiation brightness temperature and surface brightness temperature were inverted from the bi-temporal thermal infrared band images using the mono-window algorithm. Urban heat island effect in Dangshan County was divided into strong green island zone, green island zone, normal zone, heat island zone and strong heat island zone according based on arithmetic progression. Using regression analysis, quantitative relationship between NDVI and the heat island effect was determined. Results showed an acceleration in urbanization of Dangshan County over the years resulted in a gradual increase in the heat island effect from 2000 to 2013. In addition, area of the heat island and strong heat island increased was observed to increase rapidly, while the area of the green island and strong green island reduced by 46%. Also, using the Markov model, urban heat island effect in Dangshan County was predicted over the next 40 years. This model was feasible in predicting the urban heat island effect with small errors. Finally, it was determine that heat island effect was in negative correlation to the vegetation index (NDVI), and increasing green land appropriately would have a positive effect in alleviating the urban heat island effect.

Remote sensing for urban heat and cool islands evaluation in semi-arid areas

Cities are experiencing rapid population growth and consequently extensive urbanization. Land-use/land-cover change is one of the important elements worldwide, which significantly affect the environment. This study aims to describe the emergence of urban heat and cool islands as a result of changes in land-use/land-cover. Land surface temperature over a 32-year period in Isfahan city, Iran was ...

A Survey of Landscape Metrics and Land-use/land-cover Structures on Urban Heat Islands Surface: A Case Study on Urmia City, Iran

Urbanization is developing unprecedentedly on a global scale. One of the chief repercussions of urbanization, caused by man-made alterations in land-use/land-cover (LULC), is the formation of urban heat islands. Albeit, differences among landscape structures and its accompanied effects on the environment are mostly neglected. Accordingly, the main objective of this study is to survey the variou...

Investigation of changes in surface urban heat-island (SUHI) in day and night using multi-temporal MODIS sensor data products (Case Study: Tehran metropolitan)

The term urban heat island (UHI), described the phenomenon of climate change in urban areas compared with surrounding rural areas. UHI effects include: increasing in energy and water consumption, air pollution expansion and interfering in thermal comfort. Surface urban heat island (SUHI) contains patterns of land surface temperature (LST) in urban areas that has interaction with UHI in urban ca...

Data and Techniques for Studying the Urban Heat Island Effect in Johannesburg

The city of Johannesburg contains over 10 million trees and is often referred to as an urban forest. The intra-urban spatial variability of the levels of vegetation across Johannesburg’s residential regions has an influence on the urban heat island effect within the city. Residential areas with high levels of vegetation benefit from cooling due to evapo-transpirative processes and thus exhibit ...

سنجش اثرات سبزینگی گیاهی در تحولات فضایی شدت جزیره حرارتی سطح کلانشهر تهران با استفاده از تصاویر ماهواره‌ای LANDSAT8 و ASTER

The simplest definition of urbanization is that urbanization is the process of becoming urban. Urban climate is defined by specific climate conditions which differ from surrounding rural areas. Urban areas, for example, have higher temperatures than surrounding rural areas and weaker winds. Land Surface Temperature is an important phenomenon in global climate change. As the green house gases in...
